Electrical Studies

Simplifying your increasingly complex grid of the future

Our team supports mainly two types of electrical studies:

  • Electrical Coordination Study
  • Power System Study

Electrical Coordination Study (ECS)

When developments (residential, commercial, industrial) are proposed within or near power line statutory right-of-way (SRW), several electrical safety hazards may emerge. These hazards have to be assessed and, if required, mitigation design must be provided to minimize the identified potential hazards. Utility providers have engineering standards that contain specific requirements for developments around the power lines.

An Electrical Coordination Study (ECS) is generally required to assess these potential hazards, propose mitigations, and demonstrate to utility provider that all safety concerns are addressed with regards to a proposed development.

Our team utilizes specialized software, such as SES-CDEGS, to perform the analysis. The software (3D model) produces highly accurate results. We can utilize a simplified analysis method (2D model) to perform the ECS, where possible. We have the necessary hardware and tools to perform the required field work, soil tests, and measurements in support of the analysis.

We offer you a “one stop shop” for the electrical coordination study required for your next development project.

Power System Study

  • Extensive experience developing long-term load and DER forecasts
  • Adept in performing complex system modeling and power flow analysis
  • Capability to perform specialized studies including resiliency, reliability, electrification, and scenario planning

Proudly offering a wide range of Transmission and Distribution Systems Studies, we leverage our extensive capabilities and experience across the industry to meet your needs. We partner with utilities to develop tools and processes to analyze and plan their future grid. As the grid evolves, and energy transition occurs, leverage our experience for success.

Our services encompass load and Distributed Energy Resources (DER) forecasting, Transmission & Distribution load flow analysis (base case and contingency planning), and developing optimal grid solutions (Wires and non-wires) to address system needs.

Additionally, we perform special studies including resiliency planning, reliability analysis, electrification forecasts and analysis, and scenario-based forecasting and system analysis to prepare utilities for a range of potential outcomes.

Combining our deep industry knowledge, state-of-the-art tools, and a customer-centric approach, we deliver tailored solutions that address specific needs at any stage of your grid planning journey. In partnering with Kosmos Group, you get a trusted and committed team, dedicated to providing high-quality engineering services to prepare for the future grid.

Let’s work together to plan for and simplify the increasingly complex grid of the future.
